Elmwood

Elmwood is a quiescent residential neighborhood located in central Oak Cliff in Dallas. It’s known for its diverse architecture including Craftsman bungalows, Tudor cottages and ranch-style homes. Most homes in Elmwood were built between the 1920s and 1950s, and were situated along the banks of Cedar Creek.

Elmwood is also known for Elmwood Parkway. In fact, it’s considered the focal point of the neighborhood. This 16-acre Park treks along Cedar Creek and continues to the most northern edge of the neighborhood. Originally founded in 1945, the park is home to gorgeous elm, oak and pecan trees, as well as to a wide variety of wildlife and birds. There’s also plenty of open space to jog or stretch out and spend time with family. Over the few years, walking trails have been created in the park, in addition to a monarch butterfly waystation and crossing bridge over the creek.

Elmwood is also an extremely walkable neighborhood, giving residents easy access to the light rail station. The neighborhood has its own business district, which features local businesses, an elementary school and churches. Interestingly, Elmwood was the shooting location of the box office smash, Born on the Fourth of July, starring Tom Cruise.
