Montopolis

Montopolis is a neighborhood with a rich and storied history, with lively disputes concerning the original location and settlers. Today the area is situated southeast of Lake Lady Bird, and between Pleasant Valley Neighborhood and U.S. Route 183.

This densely multicultural area has strong cultural roots dating back to the 19th century. There are newer condos and buildings that have been constructed throughout the last decade, featuring trendy chain restaurants and retail shopping.

The city of Austin has recently locked down a revitalization plan for east Austin which will include the neighborhood of Montopolis. In the coming years, the area will continue to see new commerce and development. Surrounding parks and recreation centers in the area are likely to be included in the face lift.

Montopolis is part of the Austin Independent School District, and is also served by the Del Valle Independent School District. Families are given the option in parts of the neighborhood to choose which district to enroll the students in their households. Hillcrest Elementary School and Martin Middle School are amongst others with fair rankings for education in the state.
