Elizabeth

The city of Elizabeth, New Jersey, contains just about any amenity a person could want or need, and provides easy access to public transportation. Founded in 1664, the 13.6 square-mile city’s layout features circumferential and radial streets centered on the central railroad station. Its median age is 34.9 (2022). Manufacturing, including food products, chemicals, and machinery, dominate its economy.


Duplexes, townhomes, multi-family, and single-family homes make up much of the real estate in Elizabeth, where the typical home value is $423,687. The price is an 11.7% increase over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Enhancing the city’s appeal are a wide variety of annual events, including the Portugal Day Parade, the Juneteenth Parade and Cultural Celebration, the Annual Taste of Elizabeth, and other cultural festivals.


Elizabeth is served by the north-south I-95, which offers quick access to the downtown/ Elizabethport neighborhood, where new townhomes and two-family homes stand on the waterfront along Newark Bay. Keighry Head, located close to Midtown off U.S. Route 9, is full of one and two-family homes. North End/North Elizabeth, adjacent to Westfield Avenue, contains many larger one and two-family homes that have been rebuilt over the past decade.


There’s something for everyone in Elizabeth, considering its proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport, and driving distance to New York City, Philadelphia, Atlantic City and the best beaches in New Jersey.
