Portland

The largest city in Oregon, Portland, is situated between the Columbia and Willamette rivers, beneath snow-capped Mount Hood. Founded 1845, it now covers 145 square miles, and has a median age of 37.5 (2022). Its main industries include healthcare, manufacturing, high-tech, and athletic and outdoor apparel.

Portland is home to several architectural home styles: Ranch, Foursquare, Victorian, Colonial, Craftsman, Tudor Revival, Cape Cod, and Mid-Century Modern. The average price of a home here is $567,842, up 3.2% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Residents can enjoy year-round annual events, including the UFO Festival, the Oregon Brewers Festival, the Portland Rose Festival, and Portland VegFest.

I-5, I-205, I-405, U.S. 30 and 26 are all highways serving Portland. Just east of I-5 along the Williamette River is the walkable South Waterfront neighborhood. This area offers condos and apartments with proximity to downtown. Bordering I-405 and U.S. 30 is one of the oldest established neighborhoods in the city, Northwest District. It’s also called Nob Hill, after its San Francisco counterpart, due to its similarly narrow streets, historic houses, and a density of storefronts. The walkable Pearl District, east of I-405, features industrial, old-school-style condos that have been renovated into bright, beautiful spaces.

Portland residents are environmentally friendly, and enjoy the city’s parks, cycling routes, and bridges, as well as its microbreweries and coffee shops.
