LeDroit Bloomingdale

In the Northwest Quadrant of Washington DC, and only a couple of miles north of the Capitol, Bloomingdale is a residential neighborhood which also features a small commercial area.

Rich with bars, food markets, shops, and restaurants, the commercial center is the beating heart of Bloomingdale, an area that is also home to a large range of charming, single-family homes and small condos.

Bloomingdale is also famous for its wide range of public parks and green areas, and is considered by many people as one of the city’s hidden gems. Loved by young professionals and families alike, this neighborhood has been experiencing significant gentrification in the past 20 years. This meant that the property market went up in value, with the area experiencing a noticeable shift in its demographics.

Historically, in fact, African-American residents made up the majority of the local community, which is now almost equally split between them and White residents.

In 2018, Bloomingdale was designated a historic district by the DC Historic Preservation Review Board. The area was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the same year.
