Downtown Austin

As the central business district of ATX, the Downtown area is where the high rise buildings and Texas State Capitol can be found. Situated on the north bank of the Colorado River, Downtown Austin’s borders include the University of Texas at Austin and Lady Bird Lake. The architecture of the late 19th-century mixes fluidly with more modern buildings.

Seen as the core and beating heart of the city, Downtown Austin is awash in popular nightlife attractions and premiere shopping destinations. The fabled and culturally rich Sixth Street has been attracting revelers for decades, stocked full with live music venues and popular nightclubs.

Fans of Texas history and music alike will find plenty to do in Downtown, with many large scale events held annually. South by Southwest is a music festival hosted every spring, and the biannual Pecan Street Festival. To put it simply, there is always something happening in Downtown Austin.

The residents of Downtown Austin are all served by the broader Austin Independent School District, which features many of the top learning institutions in the state. There are also quite a few private schools to choose from, such as St. Peter’s Episcopal School and Austin Peace Academy.
