Spartanburg

Spartanburg is a city in northern South Carolina, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its nickname is “Hub City,” because its railroad junctions were so numerous that the surrounding area appeared to be covered in wheel hubs. Founded in 1787 and now lying across 20.3 square miles, Spartanburg’s median age is 35.1 (2022). Its economy is mainly driven by agriculture, manufacturing, textile mills, and metalworking plants.

Homes in Craftsman, Foursquare, Queen Anne, and Neoclassical styles line some of Spartanburg’s residential neighborhoods, where the typical home value is $210,637, up 19.0% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Adding to its appeal are annual events such as Music on Main, the Spring Fling street festival, and the city’s Fourth of July celebration, Red, White & Boom.

Spartanburg’s major thoroughfares include I-26, I-85, Business Loop 85, and the I-585. The neighborhood of Converse Heights, which is bordered by East Main Street on its north side, is one of the city’s most desirable places to live. Located downtown, it offers spacious and attractive single-family homes. The adjacent South Converse underwent a renewal in the 1970s but has maintained many of its original single-family homes. Nearby Hampton Heights, the city’s oldest neighborhood, has historic homes, as well as mid-century bungalows.

Spartanburg is known for its beautiful scenery and rich past. Its proximity to breathtaking mountains, sandy beaches, and the Eastern seaboard perfectly positions residents for both work and play.
