Little Rock

When explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe spotted the rock formation along the Arkansas River in 1722, he called it “Little Rock.” That riverside spot has today grown into 123 square miles that comprise the capital of Arkansas, Little Rock. Today, its median age is 36.5 (2022), and its economy is mainly driven by manufacturing, healthcare, biotechnology, logistics and distribution, food processing, and financial technology.

Home styles in Little Rock are as diverse as they are impressive: From Greek Revival, Italianate, and Queen Anne, to Colonial and English Revival, to Ranch, American Foursquare, and Contemporary. The typical value of homes here is $196,701, reflecting a 15.3% increase over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Residents have the opportunity to enjoy various events year-round, such as the Six Bridges Book Festival, the Main Street Food Truck Festival, and the Arkansas State Fair.

Getting into and out of Little Rock is easy. Major thoroughfares include I-40, I-430, and I-630. Arkansas’ first suburb, The Heights, lies north of I-630. It features older, stately homes, with views overlooking the river. Nearby Riverdale has modern homes with plenty of amenities close by. Hillcrest, just south of The Heights, offers homebuyers a mix of bungalows and Tudor-inspired houses.

Little Rock is little in name only: It has earned a reputation among foodies, art aficionados, and history buffs as an exciting place to live.
