If you’re seeking a quiet residential neighborhood with an abundance of history yet only a few miles from downtown Atlanta, take a look at Adams Park. Located in the southwest part of the city off of Cascade Road, Adams Park retains its tree-lined streets and classic homes. But you can’t miss its namesake Adams Park and the Alfred Tup Holmes Golf Course for exercise and relaxation.
The neighborhood embraces its historical past. It is home to the oldest house in Atlanta that was built in 1840. During the Civil War, the Battle of Utoy Creek was fought throughout the area. If you’re golfing at the Alfred Tup Holmes golf course, look for the plaque at the fifth green to remember the war.
What type of homes are available? Since the neighborhood took off between 1940 to 1975, homes range from ranches and cozy Southern bungalows to elegant two-story brick homes or more modern construction. Its proximity to Cascade Heights invites residents to join the crowds at its revitalized historic commercial district. For classic Southern food, the Beautiful Restaurant can’t be beat.
If you’re looking for some recreational amenities, the neighborhood is dominated by Adams Park, 158.44-acre green space with its famous pavilion, a lake, flowing stream, ballfield, tennis court, and a swimming pool. Residents are drawn to this urban oasis due to its rustic stonework and landscape design, all of which contributed to putting a portion on the National Register of Historic Places. There’s also the nearby BeltLine’s Westside Trail to explore.
