Near North Side

Near North Side is the largest of the 77 community areas in Chicago – a very large, and diverse district in the windy city. As the oldest part of Chicago, it has been populated since the 1780's when it gained its name Near North Side. Few districts in the Near North Side are as instantly recognizable as the Gold Coast, a luxury district of high-rise apartments towers, buildings, and mansions. With the beginning of mansions being built on Lake Shore Drive, this area has become eponymous with wealth in popular culture.

River North is the spot to go in the Near North Side if you're looking for fine dining, for nightlife, art galleries, or even for a cozy walk on the river. River North is home to the Wrigley Building, the House of Blues, and many other famous structures and must-see locations. Other areas around the area include the Magnificent Mile for its incredible shopping, retail, and culinary experiences – all of which make for an internationally acclaimed experience that people travel across the world for.

If you're looking to take in the sights, Streeterville is a great place in the Near North Side that contains many of the area’s tallest skyscrapers, including the John Hancock Center which is notable for its 100-floor observation deck. While Near North Side is a lot to take in, you'll never be bored exploring Chicago's largest area.
