Fisher Island

Right at the very south of Miami Beach, a few miles off the coast, Fisher Island presents itself in all its glowing beauty, and exclusive splendor. The residents of this barrier islands are amongst the world’s wealthiest population – so much so, that Fisher Island boasts the highest per capita income of any other place across the whole of the United States. With a total population that doesn’t reach 500, Fisher Island owes its name to Carl G. Fisher, real estate developer and auto parts pioneer.

Unlike other similar, private islands off the coast of Miami Beach, Fisher Island doesn’t have any sort of connection to either Miami Beach, or the mainland. In fact, it is only possible to reach Fisher Island by private boat, jet, ferry, or helicopter. At one point during its history, Fisher Island was home to the Vanderbilts, a family of millionaires, but after being sold in the 1960s for development, it remained vacant for more than 15 years. Today, only a few handpicked ultra-rich families live on the island.
