Wesley Heights

Situated only a few miles northwest of Downtown Washington, and bordered by Nebraska Avenue, Glover Parkway, Battery-Kemble Park, and Massachusetts Avenue, Wesley Heights is a small, picturesque neighborhood in Washington’s Northwest Quadrant.

Its village-like, leafy-suburb feel is elevated by the gorgeous, grand houses that line its streets, and is made even more quaint and peaceful thanks to the two vast green areas that border it. Homes in Wesley Heights tend to be luxurious and very expensive, often selling for upwards of $1 million.

Originally developed as a planned community – one of the first in the United States – between the 1920s and the 1930s, the Wesley Heights residents are constantly committed to protecting its historic heritage. To this effect, the District of Columbia Zoning Commission developed and approved the Wesley Heights Zoning Overlay, in 1992.

This is a plan that aims at safeguarding the character and history of the area’s original architecture and housing design. The Overlay document means that both current homeowners and new real estate developers must comply with its specific requirements when renovating or building properties in this area.
