To the northwest of downtown Miami and immediately adjacent to Little Haiti sits Model City, more commonly known by local residents as Liberty City. The area stemmed from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s efforts during the Great Depression to construct one of the first housing projects of the South, which was named Liberty Square.

Though the area underwent multiple evolutions from the 1930s through 2000, in 2017 Liberty City, along with Little Haiti, started to become attractive to developers and investors due to its higher elevation. Referred to as climate gentrification, real estate values began increasing in Miami neighborhoods like Liberty City with higher elevations and decreasing at low-lying ones.

The neighborhood has a large park, the Charles Hadley Park, and several smaller ones. There are multiple public schools at all grade levels and dozens of restaurants and small businesses. The community is serviced by Miami Metrorail, allowing locals to quickly access all the sights and scenes of the larger metropolitan area.

Nearby attractions include the Miami Design District, Dodge Island, the Wynwood arts district and all the waterfront activities of Biscayne Bay and the Miami River. When it’s time to head out of town, the Miami International Airport is just a short trip away.
