West Campus

Well known as the most desirable area for student housing, West Campus also hosts many of UT Austin’s Greek fraternities and sorority organizations. This gives it a high and dense student population. Situated in central Austin, the area boasts many colorful buildings and an artistic cultural vibe.

Situated along the Shoal Creek Greenbelt Trail, and west of Guadalupe Street, it is close to many University facilities like the LBJ Library and Blanton Museum of Art. Technically a community of separate neighborhoods, the area is bordered by North Lamar Boulevard, Guadalupe Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, and West 29th Street.

A number of small independent businesses line the West Campus block, and on the east end of Guadalupe Street is the commercial district referred to as “The Drag.” This is where you will find all the bookstores, retail outlets and live music venues that keep the students on campus entertained. The University COOP is also found here.

It is the second most bike-friendly part of Austin after North Campus, and a plethora of sidewalks make pedestrian traffic a breeze.

For any families living in the area, West Campus also falls under the Austin Independent School District, which has many of the top performing public PK-12 schools in the state.
