Union Square

The Union Square neighborhood—like the park for which it is named—is a cultural crossroads at the intersection of Midtown and Downtown Manhattan. This small but bustling area is home to chic restaurants, hip galleries, eclectic shopping, and trendy nightlife. While Union Square is largely a commercial area, those who have discovered its laid-back charm feel like they’ve stumbled upon a well-kept secret. Residents—who live mostly in mid-rise buildings—value the convenience of so many neighborhood amenities, and the accessibility that comes from several subway lines converging under the Park. Union Square is also an easy walk to nearby neighborhoods, including Chelsea, Flatiron, Gramercy, and the Village.

Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux, the Park itself is a pleasant greenspace. A venue for recreation, entertainment, and shopping, it’s also the site of the Union Square Greenmarket, a long-time neighborhood staple popular with foodies.
