San Francisco

One of the most vibrant cities in California is San Francisco, famous for its Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, and Alcatraz prison, on an island in San Francisco Bay. Situated on the West Coast, the 46.8 square-mile city was founded in 1776. It’s a hilly place, and neighborhoods are named after the hill on which they’re situated, such as Nob Hill, Potrero Hill, and Russian Hill. Its median age is 38.3 (2022), and it’s a center for arts, high-tech, healthcare, sciences, and professional services.

Beautiful home styles, such as Queen Anne, Gothic Revival, Victorian Stick, Tudor Revival, and Shingle Style, populate the city. Many Mid-Century Modern homes have been built in the Diamond Heights, Twin Peaks, and Golden Gate Heights areas, while Post-Modern homes dominate Bernal Heights. The typical home value is $1,534,709, which is up 3.4% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). When not at home, residents can enjoy annual events, including a cherry blossom festival, the Pride Parade, Folsom Street Fair, and Oktoberfest by the Bay.

Major thoroughfares include I-80, which provides access to the financial, shopping and hotel districts; and U.S. Route 101, which runs close to the waterfront and popular Fisherman’s Wharf area.

“The City by the Bay” stands out due to its diverse neighborhoods, a progressive culture, charming sidewalk cafés, and amazing views – the list can truly go on!
