Liana Backal has a passion for real estate and is skilled in negotiating strategically. While earning her Finance degree from NYU's Stern School, she managed the leading rental office in the West Village. Many of her NYC rental clients have since purchased or sold property from her. Liana and her family are active in philanthropy. Most notably, she co-founded the Food Allergy Initiative in 1998. FAI- now know as FARE, is the leading non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for life-threatening food allergies which affects her children and spouse. Under her leadership, this national organization has educated schools, families, camps, colleges and other institutions. FARE has advocated for airplane regulations, restaurant training, providing epinephrine in public places, food labeling laws and everything related to this condition. Other charitable involvements include National Jewish Hospital, The Jed Foundation, Columbia Psychiatry, The Navy Seals, Robin Hood, City Harvest and her children's schools. Her philanthropic efforts, coupled with a strong sales background, allow Liana to understand the emotional and financial demands of any transaction. Liana facilitates the transaction and works through the challenges. Often overseeing renovations, helping with decor, staging, and hosting multiple open houses. Liana closed on one of the largest rental deals in NYC, a 2 week rental for $600,000 (December 2021) She had not met her renters until they arrived in NYC, and now they are actively looking to purchase a home in Manhattan. Her background and travels are paramount to understanding her diverse clientele. Liana was born in Brazil , is of Chinese descent and was raised on Long Island.
Liana bought her Upper East Side co-op 30 years ago. She brokered her home. She and her husband, Arthur Backal, a hospitality guru, live in NYC and spend time in Arthur's childhood home in Brookville, NY. Her children are 30, 27 and almost 16 years old. She treats all her relationships with loyalty and respect, and will be fully committed to you.
