Growing up in Prince George’s County, living in Washington D.C and working in Virginia, there are very few areas that are unfamiliar to her. Shayla graduated from the University of Maryland in College Park, a proud Terrapin, and earned her Bachelor’s degree in American Studies with concentrations in Family Science and Anthropology. Her passion for people and culture enables her to easily connect with people on all levels. As a first-generation Jamaican American, Shayla also has ties to communities abroad and understands the complexities of navigating new environments which is helpful when working with relocation clients and helping to make their transition a smooth one. Prior to entering the real estate profession, for ten years Shayla served with the Department of Homeland Security as a Physical Security Specialist and Advisor. During her tenure, she held several positions and worked with multiple agencies. With her extensive background in advising, consulting and project management she brings a thorough, diligent and analytical approach to real estate. When Shayla is not negotiating deals for her clients, she is taking in every second of life. She loves to spend time at the beach, whether down in the Florida Keys or in the Caribbean with family and friends. You can find her having dinner at the Wharf, brunch on the water in Old Town or enjoying a film at iPic in Bethesda. Shayla maintains connections within her community as an avid volunteer. She currently serves on her local alumni board as the Community Outreach Coordinator. She coordinates all community service activities and events for the association throughout the Washington Metro Region. Prior to that she served with a local organization, L.U.V (Let Us Volunteer) where she served as Volunteer Coordinator and established partnerships with S.O.M.E (So Others May Eat), Ronald McDonald House Charities, Capital Area Food Bank, Food for Others, Martha’s Table and Food for Friends. Shayla believes that nurturing relationships and community ties are essential to living a life of fulfillment. Living by the mantra: There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up, she takes pride in maintaining relationships with clients even beyond the closing table.
