Edgewood is one of Atlanta’s most eclectic and hip neighborhoods where the city’s revitalization efforts have taken root. Located west of Reynoldstown and east of Kirkwood, it’s a tight-knit diverse community offering affordable homes on modest lots. Established in the 1870s and incorporated in 1898, it was created to help Atlanta’s housing shortage. By 1909, the city of Atlanta annexed the town. Today, with the help of gentrification, Edgewood is attracting younger residents, nearly half between 25-44 years old. It remains affordable despite its many attractions such as being near the popular BeltLine trails.

Shopping choices are many, from the Edgewood Retail District, a strip mall with more than 50 national brands and boutiques, or locally owned and operated spots such as Dead End Drinks, a neighborhood bar known for its tasty and creative cocktails. Edgewood’s highest rated eatery, Cinnaholic, is a bakery and dessert shop near the Retail District.

Families are delighted with living in Edgewood. Why? Its community garden offers a lush oasis with play structures, a pond, even chickens and a treehouse. The garden has even donated over 500 pounds of fresh produce to needy families. Another option is Walker Park, which offers fields and courts for soccer, tennis, rugby, and frisbee. It’s even a favorite for dog walkers and runners. For those inclined to entertainment, the Pinch ‘N’ Ouch theater is a popular locale. In addition to plays, the theater offers acting classes. In October, the neighborhood holds a Mac and Cheese festival with 20 vendors vying for the best dish.
