Located in North Philadelphia and bordered by Girard Avenue to the north, Fairmount Avenue to the south, Corinthian Avenue to the west, and Broad Street to the east, Francisville is a residential neighborhood that many consider to be still part of Fairmount.
The street grid of this area is truly unique: some of its roads, in fact, run parallel to Ridge Avenue, as opposed to following a North-South orientation like in the rest of the city. The reason behind this is that this part of the city was settled before Philadelphia’s more even street grid had moved that far up north.
More recently, Francisville has become home to a community of social, civil, and environmental activists, who strive to safeguard the area’s housing needs while also working together tirelessly to slash crime rates.
One of the most interesting amenities that can be found in Francisville is the Francisville playground, which boasts a children’s play area, a community pool, one ballpark and two basketball courts.
