In Washington’s Northwest Quadrant, and bounded by Rock Creek Church Road NW, Spring Road NW, Kennedy Street NW, the Armed Forces Retirement Home and Rock Creek Cemetery, and Arkansas Avenue NW, Petworth is a mostly residential neighborhood.
The area displays a mixture of single-family homes and terraced houses, and has its own metro station, on the Green Line. Petworth houses President Lincoln’s Cottage – one of the area’s most popular attractions – and bursts with an extensive range of community events.
“Celebrate Petworth”, a summer gathering, does exactly that: it shows off and celebrates the area’s best art, music, food, and outdoor activities. From May to September, the area also hosts the Petworth Jazz Project, a free music festival that routinely welcomes famous musicians.
Petworth is also full of lovely pop-up stores and restaurants, which make it a very appealing neighborhood for young professionals and families, particularly on weekends.
Foodies will be spoilt for choice in Petworth. From the local Community Market held every Saturday from May to November, to a vibrant, innovative restaurant scene, the neighborhood has something for every taste.
