Located in Washington’s Northwest Quadrant and only a few miles from Georgetown, Glover Park owes its name to Charles Carroll Glover. A banker and philanthropist from the late 19th and early 20th century, Glover created Washington’s Rock Creek Park system, while also donating large sums of money to enable the construction of Embassy Row. The area, to this day, hosts a wide range of international organizations and embassies.

Today, Glover Park is home to the United States Naval Observatory – which plays a twice-daily sounding of colors in synchrony to the Master Clock – as well as Number One the Observatory, where the Vice President of the United States lives.

In terms of architecture, Glover Park is a combination of rowhouses and apartment complexes, and is also the area where Washington’s highest-rated elementary school – Benjamin Stoddert Elementary – resides. This is one of the many reasons that have turned Glover Park into a firm favorite amongst the city’s families, together with the area’s incredibly low crime rates, vast range of green areas, and quiet, residential feel.

Fun fact: if you happen to be in the area, you might hear locals pronouncing “glover” to sound like “clover”, whereas the family of the late Charles Carroll Glover used to pronounce it to sound like “cover”.
