Located in Washington’s Northwestern Quadrant, Mount Pleasant is bordered by Rock Creek Park, Harvard Street NW, and 16th Street NW, and is just north of Adams Morgan and west of Columbia Heights.

Around 10,000 people live in Mount Pleasant, which today possesses a quaint, distinct village-like feel and bursts with historic buildings, locally-owned restaurants and shops, and a good range of outdoor areas.

Mount Pleasant is also one of Washington’s first streetcar suburbs. Originally used as farmland, the area was converted into a suburban neighborhood of the country’s capital city at the beginning of the 20th century.

The majority of the residents in Mount Pleasant are from Latin American background, which infuses the neighborhood with its quintessential Hispanic look and feel. The area’s main road is Mount Pleasant Street NW, which is home to the neighborhood’s most interesting attractions.

These include Latino-flavored restaurants such as tavernas and taquerias, and small, quirky shops, located in charming historic homes. Every Saturday from May to December, Mount Pleasant hosts a lively and colorful farmers’ market – a must-see for visitors and locals, and the best place to grab anything from baked goods to fresh produce, and from cheese to sandwiches. And expect some great live music in the background!
