Cheyenne

The capital city of the state of Wyoming lies sprawled across 32.3 square miles of high prairie that slopes westward to the Laramie Mountains. Located near the state’s southeast corner, Cheyenne was founded in 1867. Its median age is 37.5 (2022). Tourism, transportation, timber, livestock, chemicals, plastics, healthcare, and government are the main drivers of its economy.

When it comes to real estate, Cheyenne offers homebuyers houses in Ranch, Georgian, Mediterranean, and Craftsman styles. The typical home value here is $369,699, up 12.5% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Cheyenne may be on the small side, but there’s always something to do. Its annual events, for example, include Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Annual Western Spirit Art Show & Sale, and the Laramie County Fair.

Cheyenne’s major thoroughfares include I-25, I-80 and I-180. I-25 cuts through the Central Ave/W 8th Ave neighborhood, which offers plenty of parks, and many homes built before 1970. The Ridge Rd/E 4 Mile Rd neighborhood, east of I-25, mostly features houses built from 1970 to 2000. Buffalo Ridge, meanwhile, is known for having houses on wide streets, built to suit families of any size.

For many people, Cheyenne is just the right size. It’s big enough to contain amenities and entertainment, yet small enough to retain its charm.
