Anchorage

Spanning 78.8 square miles on a strip of coastal lowland, Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska by population (291,247 in 2020), and the most tax-friendly city in the U.S. (Kiplinger). It was founded in 1914 as the headquarters of the Alaska Railroad running north to Fairbanks. With a median age of 33.9 (2022), Anchorage encompasses an urban core, a joint military base, and almost all of Chugach State Park. The main drivers of its economy are retail, healthcare, social assistance, and public administration.

There are typically four types of homes in Alaska to choose from: a rancher, a townhouse, a split-level, or a condo. The typical home value in Anchorage is $424,717, up 17.8% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). When not relaxing at home, residents can enjoy year-round events, such as a Summer Solstice Festival, Spring Carnival, and the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

Alaska Route 1, the Glenn Highway, and the Parks Highway are major thoroughfares that run through Anchorage, providing access to its neighborhoods. The Rogers Park area offers small homes on modest lots, while larger properties can be found in the South Addition neighborhood. Rabbit Creek, meanwhile, features large homes with stunning views in a quiet setting.

Anchorage is an exciting place to call home. Residents enjoy its rich culture, diverse wildlife, and opportunities to take part in outdoor activities.
