Wichita

Lying on the Arkansas River in south-central Kansas is the 166.5 square-mile city of Wichita. Founded in 1864, it came to be known as the “Air Capital of the World” — the city is home to Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Cessna, and Raytheon. Aircraft manufacturing remains a large industry. Other segments include electronics, high tech, healthcare, and consumer goods. Its median age is 35.3 (2022).

Wichita’s neighborhoods feature a variety of home styles, among them Ranch, Gothic, Craftsman, and Prairie style. The typical home value is $215,000, which is up 13.8% year-over-year (Zillow, 2022). Adding to the city's appeal are various events, including Avenue Art Days, the Tallgrass Film Festival, and the Air Capital Bacon, Bourbon and Brews Festival.

The north-south I-135 and I-235 serve the city. Just east of I-135 is the neighborhood of Crown Heights. Young professionals make up most of the population in this area, but it’s perfect for people of all ages. On the other side of 1-135 is Riverside. Here, families and young professionals live in houses that are more spread out from each other, offering homeowners the chance to have more property.

With its inexpensive cost of living, great employment prospects, and cultural diversity, Wichita is a great city to live in and raise a family.
