Just four miles from downtown Atlanta, Westview sits along Ralph David Abernathy Freeway with Ralph David Abernathy Blvd as the community’s main thoroughfare. It was one of Atlanta’s first streetcar neighborhoods that today is attracting a diverse mix of economic, cultural, and ethnic residents and business owners. Its easy access to the Beltline and Mercedes-Benz Stadium doesn’t hurt either.
Young professionals and families are drawn to the neighborhood and purchasing renovated and new small charming homes. Historic craftsmen-style homes, popular in the late 1800s and known for their custom details and charming simplicity, are being snapped up in Westview. Affordable housing units and townhomes are also being built in Westview.
Hip new eateries have sprung up in this historic neighborhood along the boulevard including everything from vegetarian and vegan, to barbecue, and casual eateries. SluttyVegan ATL, a popular counter-serve spot for plant-based burgers and other hearty vegan meals, is one such destination. My Potato Factory offers plenty of baked potato meals such as creamy spinach or veggie assortments. Greens and Gravy restaurant is owned by cookbook author Darius Williams, who serves modern soul food at this reservation-required restaurant. D Café and Catering serves up homestyle breakfast, brunch, and lunch plates.
Westview’s biggest green space is the Westview Cemetery, a six-hundred-acre haven of graves that opened in 1884. Today it remains the largest cemetery in the Southeast where many well-known Atlantans are buried.
