The Vine City neighborhood is punctuated by the striking new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and its proximity to the CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park. Blocks of neat-and-tidy bungalows and ranches can be found in the neighborhood alongside renovated cottages, cozy Cape Cods, and spacious condos. Morris Brown College is a private Methodist historically black liberal arts college with 300 students on campus in Vine City.
If you’re in the mood for authentic southern food, stop at Soul Good Fine Food, where you can enjoy traditional catfish, grits, biscuits, and home fries. The Busy Bee, known as Atlanta’s soul food kitchen, gets rave reviews for its classic meatloaf, fried chicken, and fried green tomato BLT, and Local Green Atlanta offers fresh vegan, pescatarian (seafood), and vegetarian options.
Residents are pleased with the opening of the new Rodney Cook Sr. Park in Vine City a 16-acre space that has invited people to play basketball, children enjoying the splash pond, and community gatherings. Vine City Ambassadors roam around the park daily overseeing all of its activities.
The community has a long-storied history. Vine City was once a thriving African American community where Black businesses flourished. The former home of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is now owned by the National Park Service and the elegant home of Alonzo Herndon, Atlanta's first Black millionaire, is a National Historic Landmark and open to the public for tours. Today Vine City continues to celebrate the incredible people who came from the neighborhood, such as former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson and Julian Bond, former Georgia state representative and social activist.
