Stanton Park

At the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Maryland Avenue, Stanton Park is a vast green space in Washington’s Northeast Quadrant. The park also gives its name to the surrounding neighborhood, an area that is commonly defined as being limited by 2nd Street, NE to 10th Street, NE, and from East Capitol Street to H Street, NE.

Stanton Park owes its name to the US Secretary of War during the American Civil War, Edwin M. Stanton. Right in the middle of the park, locals and visitors can admire a statue dedicated to Nathanael Greene, American Revolutionary War Major General.

Families with young children flock to the western end of Stanton Park, to spend some time in the beautifully-maintained playground, whereas dog lovers prefer the eastern section, where they can walk their furry friends – always on a leash, though, as the park is maintained by the National Park Service.

Old trees, beautiful pathways, and a generally serene atmosphere characterize both the park and the neighborhood of Stanton Park. Its convenient location, that puts it at walking distance to some of Washington’s most iconic districts and buildings, is also one of the reasons why the area attracts many tourists as well as locals who are keen to explore the city’s history and culture.
