Sioux Falls

Chartered in 1856 on the banks of the Big Sioux River, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has earned many accolades for being a great place to live. It was incorporated as a village in 1876 and became a city in March 1889. It now covers 81.9 square miles, and has a median age of 34.2 (2022). Retail, finance, healthcare, agriculture, tourism, and distribution and trade are the main drivers of its economy.

Sioux Falls’ real estate includes bungalows, as well as homes in Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, and Mediterranean Revival styles. Its typical home value is $317,760, up 14.7% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Local events, such as the Festival of Bands, the Sioux Empire Fair, and the Sioux Falls JazzFest, keep residents entertained and engaged year-round.

Major highways serving Sioux Falls include I-90, I-29, and I-229. Just west of I-229 is the neighborhood of McKennan Park. It has homes in older architectural designs that have been refurbished to fit modern interiors. Southern Sioux Falls has many housing developments. It’s a newer area, so many homes are more modern in construction. Downtown, which lies between I-29 and I-229, is filled with lofts, condos, and townhomes, with access to bike trails, top coffee shops, and other amenities.

Sioux Falls is one of America’s hidden gems, whose benefits include low tax rates, short commute times, and a great parks system.
