Northwest Hills

Located on the northwestern stretch of Austin, Northwest Hills is sometimes called Far West after its Main Street. Known for being an upscale community, residents live mainly in the neighborhood streets adjacent to Far West Boulevard. Largely a residential area, this comfortable suburb is filled with Tuscan style villas and colonial architecture.

Popular with families, the neighborhood also has a fair amount of university students living here as well. Residing here ensures a high standard of living. Many locals are very involved in their community and band together to resolve any zoning issues that may arise. Notably, it is also the neighborhood where Jimmy Buffet wrote the hit “Margaritaville.”

Far West Boulevard boasts the largest commercial area for the neighborhood, with many office buildings, restaurants, and franchise stores. Grab some good old Texas style BBQ from County Line, and celebrate special occasions at sumptuous Chez Zee.

Although devoid of the many landscaped parks seen around most of Austin, Northwest Hills is lucky to hold lush protected areas like Bull Creek. This serene backdrop to the neighborhood adds a connection to nature that the rest of the city doesn’t quite have. Cyclists and runners alike will love the winding and steep roads curving through the neighborhood of houses backed up against wooded canyons.

A part of the Austin Independent School District, the Northwest Hills neighborhood benefits from access to many of the state’s finest institutions. The area is zoned for Highland Park Elementary and Anderson High School, both above-average ranked schools in Texas.
