The Magnificent Mile is a mile-long stretch of upscale retail, hotels, and restaurants in the heart of Chicago's financial district. Many tourists visit this part of the city to see the famous skyscrapers, eat at one of dozens of restaurants, and enjoy a shopping spree. It boasts an incredible amount of iconic architecture, historic buildings, bars and restaurants and shopping destinations. On a summer evening, the people walking on the Magnificent Mile are dressed up to the nines. You will see them wearing designer clothes, shoes, and jewelry. The ladies are wearing heels that would make your head spin, and the gentlemen are in their best suits.
The 13 blocks of Michigan avenue from the Chicago River to Oak Street are an international destination for hospitality, dining, and retail – with almost 500 stores, almost 300 restaurants and 60 hotels packed into the area. Close to the river, you're always just a few minutes away if you want to relax on the pier after a long day of eating, shopping, and taking in the sights. Home to the Chicago Water Tower, the Tribune Tower, the Wrigley Building skyscraper, and the 100-story John Hancock center, there is no shortage of impressive American architecture in the Magnificent Mile. If you head to the top of the John Hancock Center, you'll find an incredible rooftop observation deck with fine dining and some remarkable views of the city.
