Dixie Hills is a historic neighborhood of northwest Atlanta that was established by Heman E. Perry, a Black entrepreneur who started the Standard Life Insurance Company in 1919. Seeing a need to serve the Black community, he developed Dixie Hills as well as other communities. Today, you’ll find young professionals, families, and retirees living in Dixie Hills.
The community has an active community civic group that operates a neighborhood website and information portal for its residents. Highly rated middle- and high-schools in Dixie Hills include Wesley International Academy, Charles Drew Charter School Junior Academy/Senior Academy, and Westside Atlanta Charter School.
At the center of Dixie Hills is Anderson Park, a spacious green space with a swimming pool, soccer fields, and basketball courts. An organization known as Friends of Anderson Park invite wildlife experts from Georgia Audubon to bird watch in the fall. Families can also head to other parks and playgrounds such as Washington Park Playground, The Optimist, and Maddox Park.
Residents of Dixie Hills have a wide variety of dining choices in their neighborhood.
