Colorado Springs, Colorado, is where a rugged history, canyons, grasslands, and urban luxuries meet. The 195.8 square-mile city was developed in 1859 next to the Rocky Mountains. Today, it offers suburban living near the state capital, Denver, which is about a 90-minute drive away. Residents include everyone from college students to retired couples, as well as military families connected to nearby Army, Air Force or Space Force hubs. Its median age is 34.7 (2022).
The city is also home to a variety of residential architectural styles: Craftsman, Colonial, Contemporary, Foursquare, Prairie, Victorian, and Colorado Farm House. The average home price is $476,721, up 7.5% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Annual events, such as the quirky Fruitcake Toss in January, Territory Days in May, and ArtWalks in Old Colorado City from April to December, contribute to its appeal.
Colorado Springs is primarily served by I-25, which runs north-south. It provides access to the Briargate neighborhood, known for its friendly neighbors, and large homes and yards. Further south, Broadmoor offers both historic homes and modern mansions.
Rockrimmon, on the northwest side near I-25, is the place to be for dramatic views from the top of cliffs and bluffs.
Residents still regularly stop to greet someone they know in Colorado Springs, despite its growth.
