Martin Luther King, or MLK as its commonly known, is a neighborhood on the east side of Austin. A bit removed from the downtown area, it is a block that is gradually being renovated and revitalized. New townhouses and some larger homes have been built in recent years, and lush greenery thoughtfully landscaped to aid in driving up property values.

The neighborhood has great access to public transportation with many bus stops in the area, along with local highways cleaving right through. This makes it easy to get everywhere and anywhere with your home base in MLK.

Great restaurants in the area include Batch and Skylark Lounge. Residents can delight in a drink from Oddwood Ales, a brewery and small pub with a dog-friendly patio.

Many of the more recently built upscale townhomes are on the north end of the neighborhood. The central part just south of 12th St features quaint homes on streets lined with beautiful large trees. Locals are known to be quite upbeat and neighborly, and MLK can be called a friendly area.

MLK is one of the many lucky neighborhoods served by the Austin Independent School District, which is home to many of the premiere public schools in the state.
