Akron

Spread across 62.2 square miles of rolling hills and varied terrain in Ohio is the city of Akron. Founded in 1825, it’s now a world-renowned center of polymer research and development. It has also been nicknamed “the Rubber Capital of the World,” due to the presence of B.F. Goodrich Tire, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Firestone Tire and General Tire. Today, manufacturing, education, healthcare, and biomedical research are the main drivers of the city’s economy. Its median age is 36.5 (2022).

Akron’s residential neighborhoods include architectural styles that are popular in Ohio: Craftsman, Ranch, Cape Cod, American Foursquare, and Tudor Revival. The typical home value is $119,030, up 14.7% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). The city hosts several annual events, such as the Chili Cook-off, Christmas Craft Show, and Rubber City Comedy Festival, for visitors and residents alike to enjoy.

Interstate highways 76, 77, and 277 all serve Akron. Straddling I-77 on the west side of the city is the elegant Fairlawn Heights neighborhood, where homes sit on country-style lots, surrounded by greenery. Close-knit Ellet, just south of I-76 in the city’s east end, has plenty of new construction homes, while Northwest Akron is ideal for families, with proximity to I-77 and a park filled with trails.

Akron is a city where residents can find anything they could ever need less than 10 minutes away.
