Once a regular getaway destination for Hawaiian royalty before Europeans discovered it in 1778, Kihei is today an 11.7 square-mile coastal town. Nestled on the island of Maui’s southwest shore, it has six miles of beautiful beaches, and a dry, warm, and sunny climate. Its median age is 40.9 (2022), and many residents work in accommodation and food services, retail, healthcare, utilities, manufacturing, and public administration.

The average price of a home is $1,216,199, which is an increase of 36.5% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Residents can enjoy the annual Maui Whale Festival, town parties every fourth Friday of the month, as well as surfing and snorkeling.
Kihei is served by Piilani Highway (Hawaii Route 31), which runs north-south through town. While the southeast area is popular with homebuyers, the southwest area tends to have more affordable homes. North Kihei offers the benefit of being near the beach, but in a quieter area.
Kihei is a happening little beachfront town that offers a lot for its size: Nature, shopping, dining, and water sports for all ages. The towns of Wailea and Makena are also a short drive away.
