Fort Wayne

In 1794, American Revolutionary War general Anthony Wayne directed the U.S. Army to build Fort Wayne in northeastern Indiana, at the convergence of the St. Mary’s, the St. Joseph, and the Maumee Rivers. Today, the 110.8 square-mile city situated on flat land has a median age of 35.4 (2022). Insurance, technology, design and craftsmanship, logistics and e-commerce, food and beverage, and advanced materials fuel its economy.

Homebuyers in Fort Wayne will discover homes in Ranch, Craftsman, Cape Cod, Colonial, Victorian, Tudor, and Contemporary styles. The typical home value is $205,447, up 12.4% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). Enhancing the city’s appeal are annual events, including the Fort Wayne Music Festival, the Cherry Blossom Festival, and BBQ Ribfest.

Major thoroughfares serving Fort Wayne include the north-west I-69, I-469, which embraces the city’s outskirts, and U.S. Route 27, which runs north-south in the middle of the city. I-69 provides access to the neighborhoods of Brierwood Hills and Sorrento. Brierwood Hills is mostly populated by executives who live in townhomes or stately single-family homes, while big and beautiful Sorrento is filled with friendly families. Older couples tend to live in calm and quiet La Cabreah, which lies west of I-69 in the city’s north end.

Fort Wayne is a friendly Midwestern city, where newcomers may find themselves feeling right at home after only a short period of time.
