Norfolk

Norfolk is a waterfront city nestled in the southeastern corner of Virginia. It’s home to Naval Station Norfolk, a naval base on Chesapeake Bay. The city was founded in 1682, and now covers 96.40 square miles. Its median age is 30.8 (2022), and its economy is mainly driven by shipping and shipbuilding.

The city’s residential streets feature bungalows, and homes in Greek, Federal, Neoclassical, and Gothic Revival architectural styles. The typical home value is $284,682, up 11.6% over the past year (Zillow, 2022). There's always something to experience in the city, including events such as the Norfolk Jazz Festival, the Stockley Gardens Art Festival, and the Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival.

Norfolk’s major thoroughfares include I-64 and U.S. Routes 13, 58, 60 and 460. The neighborhood of Ghent, west of U.S. Route 460, is full of character. Historic houses, Spanish haciendas, Colonial Revival-style homes, and ultra-modern dwellings fill this area. The family-friendly community of Larchmont-Edgewater further north offers tiny bungalows and large, six-bedroom waterfront homes, as well as new construction. The inland neighborhood of South Bayview appeals to families and young professionals, due to its proximity to I-64, safety, and affordability.

Norfolk is a terrific place to live for anyone who wants to live near water without the high prices.
